A Campaign to Reduce Impaired Driving through Retail-Oriented Enforcement in Washington State
This demonstration project report concerns a joint effort conducted by Washington State Liquor Control Board and the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The purpose of the project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the agency’s DUI Reduction Program. The evaluation focused on three outcome measures: (1) reductions in sales of alcohol to intoxicated persons by retail establishments, (2) reductions in BAC levels among drivers arrested for DUI.; and (3) reductions in the degree to which DUI arrestees named establishments exposed to the program as their place of last drink.
